What is the Recommended Dosage of Ambien?
The recommended dosage for Ambien use is different for men and women because Ambien stays in women’s blood longer than men. The recommended dosage of Ambien for women is 5 mg for the immediate-release tablets and 6.25 mg for the extended-release tablets. For men, the recommended dosage of immediate-release Ambien is 5 to 10 mg and 6.25 mg to 12.5 mg for the extended-release tablets. Your doctor may start you out on a smaller dose of Ambien, then increase your dosage as needed if you are not experiencing the full effect. The smaller the dose, the less likely Ambien is to remain in your system the morning after taking it.
